Meet Your Workshop Leader
Hi, I’m Andreas, born in 1983 in the Allgäu region and based in Berlin since 2011. I’m one of the last graduates of my photography school to receive a fully analogue photographic education. Since 2012, I’ve been part of the analogue photography collective Fotografie Berlin e.V., and since 2018 I’ve served as chairman of the association, working alongside more than 35 analogue photographers.
I work with analogue cameras in all formats, from 35mm to large format, and regularly explore traditional and experimental darkroom techniques. For me, analogue photography is more than technology — it is craftsmanship, focus, slowness, and a creative process worth preserving and sharing.
3h Darkroom & Printing Intermediate
During this intermediate darkroom workshop in Berlin Neukölln, you will focus entirely on black-and-white film development and traditional darkroom printing. Designed for photographers who already feel comfortable using an analogue camera, this workshop offers a hands-on introduction to refining your film processing and printing workflow.
You can bring your own exposed 35mm or 120 medium format film to develop in the darkroom. Together, we will work through the complete film developing process, including loading film onto reels in complete darkness, understanding different developers, controlling contrast and grain, and learning proper washing and drying techniques.
Once your negatives are ready, we will move into darkroom printing. You will create contact sheets and learn essential silver gelatin printing techniques such as exposure testing, contrast control, dodging and burning, and producing balanced black-and-white enlargements by hand.
This is not a beginner analogue photography course. Participants should already feel confident using manual analogue cameras and understand the basics of exposure and film photography.
The workshop takes place in a small group setting with plenty of individual guidance and hands-on time in a fully equipped analogue photography darkroom in Berlin.
